Child's Quilt from Panel and Strings: Finish

This is one of my favorite quilts I've ever made. Yup, I'm saying that about a quilt made from scraps, and a cut up panel. I can't believe it, but it's true. It's just fun, and I got to add so many tidbits of old favorite fabrics in the string piecing too. It's for my granddaughter, but it's staying here. I don't often do that, but I'm a little attached to it. Maybe because it took a lot of creative and mental energy to piece, but this one is special.

There is an indecisive moment just before you start guiding a long arm machine. It's deja vu if you aspire to writing. You have a plan, but a creative muse swoops in and takes over your hands. In the first several seconds of stitching, you are fairly committed. Thread goes down faster than words on a keyboard, and is far more permanent! So went this baby quilt. I had one thing in mind until I stared at the flowers in the border print, and suddenly my original idea disappeared.

There are 2 more passes to go before I'm finished with the quilting. I've been using a ruler for the spider webs, and free handing the curlicues. Every thing is going smoothly now, but please let me tell you about the disaster what happened.

This has been one of my lingering projects, and has had a voracious appetite for my sewing time. I've sewn every spare minute for 4 days to complete these last 4 stars, square them up, and sew all together. It's become one of the most delightful quilts I've ever worked on.

This is the free block pattern I made for the Fabri-Quilt New Block Blog Hop 2015. The pattern and tutorial are available through the link. I wanted to see how it might look in sweet print fabrics, and was surprised at how much it changed the feeling of the block.
