Happy Easter to all this morning!

This post is to document all my intended finishes
for the 2015 On the Windy Side Q2. Rules and such
at the link if you'll join me. I'm almost
pink-cheeked at all my WIPs, but there will
be more confessions than just mine this week.

Above is a project I will be telling you about
this week. A Variable Star block that will
become a pillow for a Giveaway at the end of
the month, and is also my April goal for A Lovely
Year of Finishes. The Pink Doxies Pet Project
Show linky party is going on right now here
and will last until Monday night. We have the
same link party each weekend you can link up to.
I will pick one random winner at the end of
this month to receive this pillow. I'm happy
to ship anywhere in the world for you!

Are you interested in winning?

Enter the Pet Project link party for one chance.

Let's go sew.

Show and Tell and Pet Project Show

There have been many occasions lately where someone has asked me if I had a card.
In the age of smart phones, do people still carry business cards?
According to my daughter at university, students there are encouraged
by professors to carry business cards.
Several other friends said they always cards on their person.
Where have I been?

This is me--Julie, and Minnie, one of the Doxie Girls.

Today is a very special blog post.
I've joined with Grow Your Blog 2015 along with hundreds of other bloggers.
Our host is Vicki at 2 Bags Full, and may I say thank you, first of all.
There are some rules to abide by, so allow me to follow them to a "T",
and then we'll get on to our Linky Party and a Giveaway!

I'm Julie--a Modern Quilter.
I love modern fabric, intense pattern, and improvisational piecing.
I'm all about machine quilting, but occasionally quilt one by hand.
I would pick a scrap quilt as my favorite 8 days of the week.

 I Dream in Color.

I'm Planning a Party! Wanna Come?

I'm proud to say the tote is done.
The handles are on, and it's ready for service.
No more travelling in blue Ikea bags for me.

Selvages and Pieced Oversized Tote WIP

Okay folks. I'm smitten. I'm, totally, head-over-heels Gaga over selvages.
They are like gingerbread on a house to add the final zing.

Orphan Blocks and Selvages

My sewing room is now 'cleaner', meaning there are still some piles of fabric waiting for another project or two, and, Woohoo! I found my lost ruler! Floors are swept, free of pins, and all table tops are wiped down. Cutting fabric causes a lot of lint and dust, but all surfaces are sparkly now. I was putting away some scraps, and uncovered a stack of orphan blocks. They were made with Kate Spain fabric, and left over from the "Daydream" improv quilt top I did a few months ago. They were begging to be put in a project.

Quilted Clutch Bags

Somewhere along the Quilting Road, I never learned what a walking foot was, or did, because I had always sewn on a Pfaff. That wonderful old machine with an integrated walking foot! Mine is on the older side now, over 20 years old, and I'm still just as thrilled with it as I was the first day. The only thing that I can't do is quilt a bigger piece on it with the tiny 6 3/4" throat. For that, I need my new Janome.

All my quilting is done on the Janome now, but I had never just straight stitched a quilt. Once I learned how much fun it was to do free-motion, I couldn't see why someone would even want to do straight stitching. While I love the creativity of free-motion, Fiona's dog bed required a straight stitch because of the bulk. So last weekend it was finally necessary to learn how to use the Janome's walking foot. I 505'd together two cute scraps, and figured it out. Not tough at all, but now I had seen how it could transform my fabric with just that straight stitching, and I was really impressed with the look. I just had to find something to do with my test piece!

So, this little clutch was born, and the idea continued to be refined, ...

Tag! You're It! Graphic Bag Finish Up Part II

The bag was a pretty straight forward finish--I thought. I found some 2" D-rings at my local fabric and craft store.

Graphic Shooting Star Finish Part 1

Graphic Bag Finish Up

Are you ready for the big finale? Here it goes!

Decide how long you want your strap. I held the bag and measured over my shoulder, but dear daughter is quite a bit shorter and smaller than I am. Use 505 to put batting on the wrong side keeping inside the strip 1/2" from sides. I used a scrap, and even pieced it together here. No one will know.

Did You See My New Button? The Process Pledge

Third star done, and fabric for the fourth ready. I'm going to turn the two into a bag.

Here's the fabric chosen for the other two. The top one 'pops' on the blue.
