If I said I was writing this quickly so I could go to bed, would you understand? It was a hard day in the studio, and I have so much to share over the next few days with you. But this is the big one. E's Hexie is completely finished. The binding is a Timeless Treasures print in a peachy-orange, and I couldn't be happier with it. It's girly yet modern, and sets off the quilt with a soft framing.

Pet Project Show #36 and Highlights
Nero's Post and Patch
The Doxie girls and I had a terribly hard time this month picking our favorite link ups. We never cease to be amazed at the talent pool out there in QBL. ('Quilting Blogland'. An acronym coined by Sandra at Musings of a Menopausal Melon and Helen of Midget Gem Quilts.)

Amy Stauffer-McNutt is a passionate teacher with a special interest in butterflies, and self-dedicated to saving the Monarchs. She started this butterly quilt project last year in her classroom, and I promised to quilt it for her. She'll use it as a visual aid, and I'm sure it will hang in her regular classroom when it's not travelling.

Pet Project Show #33: Adding to the Stash
A sale from Fabricworm was too good to pass up. The joy about buying online is the selection seems limitless, but that also makes it harder to choose. Depending on whether you're buying fabric to use personally or to manufacture goods makes a difference. Just because we like it doesn't mean someone else will. I try to keep to the 'middle of the road' on some fabrics, but others are just indulgences.

Pet Project Show #27-Happy 4th of July!
The 4th of July weekend is here! Many here in the U.S. have a 3 day weekend so I thought we should start our Pet Project Show a day early. If you're like me, we'll sneak peaks at our online media in between lawn parties and parades, and maybe a little stitching, too.
While I was searching for fireworks pictures, I noticed how visually similar they are to neon lights. I had never put the two together before, but when I came across the following pictures from our trip last week, it was like the lights came on!
I'm sure it's a color attraction for me, too, but you get some of the same patterning with hand-dyed fabrics and batiks. I have always liked a radiating pattern more than random designs.
Pinterest and Etsy are full of gorgeous examples. This is from JenJeans Colorful Fabrics. Visit her Etsy shop to see more.
The first Saturday of each month is when I highlight some of the Doxie's and my favorite link ups. There's so many to pick from now. I changed the format of the link party a few weeks ago, and encouraged you to link up as many posts as you'd like, as long as you'd posted them in the past week. That's what I would want in a weekly party, and many of you have said you did, too. Favorites first, then link away. And may your weekend be memorable and safe.
We picked multi-colored projects for the weekend celebration. We hope you enjoy them.

Happy Weekend to You!
I am off enjoying a bit of free time while the family holds down the fort, and feeds the animals. No big post, but some stunning new fabrics I found for a steal, and a Linky Party today for everyone to visit.
Enjoy the eye candy, and link up at the bottom. Remember, you may link up any blogposts or Instagram posts created in the past week. Some of us have a hard time choosing the favorite of the week. I know.
I invite you to add as many links as you've posted over the past week. If you've posted 3 times since last Saturday, you can link all three. You're not limited to just one, so show them all off!
Thank you to each one of you who link up with the Pet Project Show. I love to see your work here!

Pet Project Show #25
Thank you for all the warm wishes on my longarm acquistion. I've laughed out loud reading the names you've given to yours! You are some creative stitchers.
In honor of the Pet Project Show, I stylized a couple of our pets in thread up above--a llama and a dachsund.
My first finish is this little test run. The front looks pretty good, but the back has some lingering issues with tension. It's time to dig deeper into my manual and online, and fine tune before I start a real piece.
Black fabric with red thread is not the most photogenic. Close up you get a decent picture, but stand away and you have problems. Anyone have advice to offer?
I'm off to a talk by a ruler designer for Creative Grids today. I'm told she'll have a little trunk show, too, and I'm looking forward to meeting her.
In the meantime, on with our party! I invite you to add as many links as you've posted over the past week. If you've posted 3 times since last Saturday, you can link all three. You're not limited to just one, so show them all off! And I've enabled voting, so we can all vote for our top 3 choices. I think it will be fun to see the 3 winners next week.

Pet Project Show #24
My self-imposed rule for using prints that show as solids is
becoming less defined. I have started adding fabrics that have more color mixed into them. A book called Colorific by Pam Goecke Dinndorf is the influence. Color seems to be the most interesting thing about quilts for me, but I have so much to learn. I keep turning to new resources to find out how ways to use it effectively. Even blending in tiny amounts of color that appear elsewhere in the quilt are helping to tie the palette together for my eye.
Above, the salmon has small yellow flowers, and below the grey is pulling in the teals and greens. If you squint hard, which we often do picking fabrics, it still shows as mainly a solid. Also, the above block is about 12", while the one below is only 6". Viewed from a distance, the 12" color will have more color impact to you.
The other thing repeating itself during construction, is how the Moda pattern suggests assembly. I think the instructions are rather typical. We tend to construct smaller blocks or units that can then be sewn all together without a Y seam. It made sense to me, but I kept seeing another way.
What I Was Seeing and Thinking
Can you visualized the 3 pieces on each corner made up of the navy square and 2 half-square triangles? They make a triangle unit. Sewn together by themselves, I have greater control over the precision. I sew non-bias edges to the square making a flying 'goose' only with a square. If I construct this way and sew it to the unit inside, my bias edges aren't as likely to distort.
This 6" was not a candidate to try it on as it only had 2 corners that could be broken down. I was not as pleased with the end result, but will blame it on my laziness with pressing.
The HST should have all been pressed open, but they were so little! I thought I could get away with a little cheating, and pressed to one side. I'm sorry, but it shows in the end result.
Look above at the smoothness of the 2 horizontal seams above. No puckering, and they lie flat. Now compare them to the vertical seams. See the puckering? Me, too. I am trying to decide if I should redo it, but I have definitely learned my lesson.
I picked a block I could experiment on. This will be a large corner block with many pieces. What I'm showing is just the interior of the block.
The sewing diagram showed sewing flying geese for the top and bottom HST. Then HST units at the corners would be sewn to the same flying geese units to make up right and left columns. Those columns are causing me the most problems as they are not coming out straight.
I did this instead.
I pressed everything open.
What an amazing difference in the trueness of the block!
I was astounded, and then perplexed.
Why?
My wall looks like this now.
And in my policy of full disclosure, I did a quick run to my LQS to buy a few more 'oddities'--colors I wouldn't normally keep in my stash, but needed to keep going. They aren't a mixture of color like I was trying above, but more of the one color only theme. I'm excited to use them today.
Can I leak a little of my secret to you?
Thank you to each one of you who link up with the Pet Project Show. I love to see your work here!
