Custom Quilting Finish: Vintage Windmills

Vintage Windmills

Isn't this just the neatest quilt? It's a Krista Moser pattern, and can be purchased through Mercantile on Main LLC in Coshocton, Ohio. The Mercantile also carries the beautiful Tula Pink True Colors line--yum! The brick and mortar store is one of my favorite quilty haunts, and also has an easy to navigate website. And better than most sites, you can always reach the store by phone, if you have a question. Follow the link, show her some love, and tell her Julie said to say hello.

When the quilt top came in my shop a few months ago, the owner, Denise, knew exactly what she wanted. Make it gorgeous! Outline the hexies, and add a beautiful design to the stars.

I wanted a curvy, luscious pattern to break up the straight lines, and thread to match each star.

The end result was over a dozen thread colors! Lots and lots of thread changes happened to make this quilt work, but so worth it. Letting the fabrics show through made the pattern pop! I used Superior Threads So Fine in the stars to help with backstitching, and Glide in the outer areas to give just a touch of sparkly shine.

Double batting layers of cotton and poly give it just the right poof, and a fab finish just in time to take a road trip!

Look for this quilt and the Mercantile on Main LLC booth at Shipshewana Quilt Festival June 23-26 in Shipshewana, Indiana. I wish I could be there, but I have friends waiting for me in the garden. Maybe next time.

Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go sew.

Just gorgeous, Julie! Did you use rulers for the straight lines and diamond shaped digital motifs for the stars? It looks fantastic!

Julie, such a gorgeous job. I just finished the last quilt for Sarah's Hands2Help and I am embarassed to show it after seeing yours. Does the double batting make it a lot heavier? I love the way the thread shows up. The quilting makes the quilt and that is as it should be.

What an amazing quilt! I love how the quilting makes a star in the center of the stars. You can really see it on the back.
