Spin Drift: 9

Reach In and Touch Them

Don't they look alive? Like you could feel they're cool, rubbery leaves if you swept your fingers across the fabric. I love this digital print! Maybe it has something to do with my fettish with succulents. They're like collecting Beanie Babies. Each slightly different, and low care. I find I can winter over dozens under fluorescent lights, and my world is still green on gray days.

The market seems to be growing for them, and now I find them tempting me everywhere!  Not to mention, the videos are as tempting as the quilting videos on YouTube.

Yesterday was Sewing Day in the studio, and how, you wonder, does that differ from every other sewing day? It starts with a quick tidying up, a sweep, and a clean. Most of the time it takes a few hours at most, and it needs it. It's my reset button. Sometimes I'm buried in work, and it's minimal. But the people I'm expecting soon really don't mind, because they're friends I've sewn with for years.

Often we have a largish group, and can get packed in like the plants above. We share tables, wait our turn to press blocks, and ask if we've sewn long enough to justify coffee again. If I'm sitting at my own machine sewing, I have one ear tuned to the long arm listening for the bobbin getting low. It's like knowing when a baby is getting restless, and waking up. But the other ear is listening to the human hum. The chatter, the laughter, everyone else's machine going in its own rhythm. And in that one moment, everything is right with the world.

May your day be filled with sunshine
 streaming through your window.
Spring is coming.

Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go sew.

I also love succulents. I have had success growing them in my west facing windows, even in Buffalo. I take some of them outside in the summer, putting them under the deck so they don't get scorched. Love that fabric. Every one of these blocks is a winner.

OHGosh, the center of that block look 3D! I think I'll be loving succulents even more after we move to an almost desert area. This is another great block.

Another amazing block! This pattern gives you so much room to explore. I’m dying to see the blocks all together! Hope you had a fun sew in day. Was this your community quilt group?

That's wonderful that you can share that lovely space with all your quilty friends. What a fantastic way to meet and share friendships!
