Quilt for a Hard Rocker

2020 Quilts for Family

I get requests for quilts fairly often, and I used to spend a lot of time asking what colors people liked, if they saw something on Pinterest, etc. It's led me down a few roads I'd rather not travel anymore. I've gotten smarter. If someone asks for a quilt, I get to pick it. That's it. My choice.

I generally know the person, how they're going to use the quilt, and honestly, what my time limitations are. I'm assuming when someone asks for a quilt they need it this year, right? So, other than, "How big?", I like to surprise them. Guess what this person likes?

Several years ago I sampled a pattern with the 'folded corner method' for these stars using a Tonga batiks pack, and then decided the method was a terrible waste of fabric. I was left with a short stack of stars until I figured out a better method. It was a trial and error process, but I found several ways to make it more accurate and less wasteful. But that, as they say, will have to wait for another post. I'm sticking to short and sweet this month.

The center is a t-shirt from this family member's band. An AC/DC tribute band, they're on Instagram evilwaysbandohio. The great graphic batiks are all from Lunn's Fabrics, and you can find them online. I've put it in the quilting queue, and it should be done before spring. One of three family quilts, and not bad for February.

Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go sew.

What a fun quilt - they will love it! Those black prints just set everything off so well. Fun, fun!

Lovely. I like the star fabrics, just right so they don’t overshadow the black prints. Clever.

Sometimes you just have to leave the quilt design up to the pro. Looks like you did a great job, however the photo disappeared from this morning.

I hear you, sister! I make what I want but with them in mind. Period! But never has one of my quilts come out as gorgeous as this one! Well done, Julie!
