Second Entry for 2015 Blogger's Quilt Festival-"Zombies, Zombies, Zombies!"

We took advantage of a quick break in the
rainstorms, and snapped a few new pictures
Another post telling the whole backstory can
be found HERE.

This quilt was made for my son, who happens
to hate zombies, so it's a little tongue-in-cheek.
Regardless, he liked his quilt I made last fall.

This marks my second entry into the
Amy's Creative Side. This is a smaller
quilt than "Chicago, 2007", which is entered in
the large quilt category. Measuring in at "52x61",
this will be entered in the "Home Machine Quilted" category.

Zombies is one of the first quilts I had the
chance to quilt on my Janome. I had moved
up from a 7" throat space to a whopping 11"!
I went a little crazy with the graffiti style
quilting, and the grey Aurifil thread popped
on my black Kona backing.

The fabrics were a hoot to work with, and I
loved the fussy cutting possibilities.

I chose a black and white hatched fabric
for the binding shown above.

I think one of the best things about doing so
much freestyle is you develop a rhythm as
you move the quilt.

I pieced the back with the intent for it to
look like little legs on the sides.

Since this was one of the first quilts I made
in my early blogging days last fall, it's new to
most of you. So...
"Ta Dah!"

Time to get back in the archives and put
some labels on old posts, I think. There are
some goodies hiding in there yet, if you
care to check them out.

Like this.

And, yes, Mishsa and his pasture mates are doing
well, and loving their new barn. We'll do an
update on them soon.

If you're new to Pink Doxies, the
Pet Project Show runs Saturday-
Monday every week, and is your
opportunity to link up whatever
lovely thing you're working on.
We'd love to see you there!

Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go to Amy's Creative Side,
and check out all the quilts today.

Love the Zombie Quilt! Excellent fabric and the graffiti quilting is great. Also love the alpaca (or is it a llama?) photos - who could fail to be cheered by an alpaca in a hat! Have a great Sunday. xx

I love your son's quilt, I know zombies will begin to grow on him.

Cute quilt and fun quilting - love what you did with those rectangles. Is that a Terry Atkinson pattern? Sure to be a winner.

Thanks. I loved making that little quilt for my son, and he uses it on his couch. Love that he isn't afraid to use it! That is one of my daughter's two llamas. The hat he's wearing is her creation, and he's modelled hats, scarves, and a shawl, I think. He's such a pesky guy, but you can tell by the pictures of them together how much he loves her. I think we have one with red mittens on his ears, too. Maybe I'll hunt that up to share next.

Hope your weekend was restful.

He really did not like zombies when I started it, and still doesn't. I think that they were cartooned made it just a little easier. They're pretty cute for zombies.

I looked up Terry Atkinson because I didn't recognize the name. (I'm REALLY still new to the quilting world, you know.) No, it's not. It might be from a book, but I can't guarentee it. I almost always make up my own patterns, or start with someone's idea and tweak it. The most fun thing I did with this one was creating a logic matrix to make sure I made every possible combination that could be made with the fabrics keeping in mind not to have 2 solids, etc. There is only 2 duplicate of all possible, compatible combinations in the whole quilt. And that is how I came up with the final size, too.

Wow, I love the quilting on this - and the photo of the back shows it off really well. I like the funny zombie fabrics too and you have got a lovely balance with the prints and the plains.

Graffiti quilting? That's a new term to me, but I like it! Best wishes in the quilt festival!

This quilt is gorgeous! Both front and back. I love your quilting, particularly the "square spirals". The quilting showing in the back is a piece of art!
