Custom iPad Sleeve & Pet Project Show #20

I have had the fabric for this iPad sleeve
since January. My mother-in-law requested
something simple yet fairly well padded
to carry while travelling. The project
sat on the back burner while other things
took its place. I had it on my list of
and I've checked it off.

This is for a bird lover, and the fabrics
seemed suited. I especially love the Acacia
print from Tula Pink used as the
background fabric. A fantasy print, she's
mixed hummingbirds with what looks
like anemones.

Please Note
The closure is with 3M One. I strongly
warn against using any kind of magnetic
closure with electronics! They don't mix.

I did just a tad of FMQ on this with some
pebbling, and spiraling flames.

It doesn't show much at all on the outside,
but was a chance for me to practice. The
batting is my very dense 'Kevlar' batting,
and though I wouldn't guarentee it, I
think it will hold up fairly well to a drop.

I did a bit of outline FMQ on the front of the
economy block, or square within a square,
and some pebbling in the corners.
Less quilting means more loft.

So, 'Ta Dah!', and another finish down.

I should put an iPad cover on my Q3 FAL list, as it is something I've meant to do for oh, a year or so! Made a great one for my laptop several years ago from Quilts 'n More magazine, but the poor iPad has nothing so unique. I love the one you made! Love that Tula Pink, but then, I love all her fabric, and the combination you used is terrific. "Kevlar" batting...hmm, is that the stuff for ironing boards or hotpads? I am curious!

Lovely iPad case; beautiful fabric - it's such an unusual colour combination. I really need a pouch for my e-reader and keep telling myself that it can't be difficult ... and yet ...!

Sandra, the Kevlar padding is just my name for a really dense, cheap batting I bought locally. $1.69 a yard at our Zinck's store, a fabric outlet. It quilts up like body armor! I don't know what it's original use was, but maybe upholstery padding. I bought it for a cheap practice batting. If you should ever come to my neck of the woods, we'll hit that outlet.

Pretty case! It's amazing how easy these are to work up, and you've got something totally unique!

I am surprised you could quilt so beautifully through the 'kevlar' batting. I love the quilted flowers. Next time you should allow the quilting to show!

It was a toss up between the quilting and the fabric, and I l-o-v-e-d the fabric so much! Also, there was not a single thread color I had that would show up on that deep teal. White was a no-go here. So, the fabric won out. Next time, though. Next time. : )

Also, I believe that case has made several outings already, and is hanging tough with the kevlar batting.

Hello Julie,

The little bird is so sweet! It looks like a robin or a wren, birds I see nearly every time I go out. The quilting is perfect - just enough, without distracting from the bird.

Thank you for linking up with Free Motion Mavericks!

Love,
Muv

That looks like a very useful iPad case, with great quilting on it. *Visiting as a member of the official 2015 Finish-Along cheerleading squad*
