Happy Baby Snapshots Finished

 Yes, it is March,
and, Yes, we still have snow in Ohio.

Keep the faith! Spring is on it's way,
and this quilt is all ready for a new baby!

The backing is "Garden" from Westminster Fabrics,
and the binding is a bright pink Kona solid.
The prints are "Snapshots" by Riley Blake.
There are 13 solids added in for fun!
You can read more about my pattern, and see
fabric close-ups here.

I'm going to have to come clean about a little
problem I had with this project. I flat out forgot
to iron my batting. I think I've told you here, and
I tell all beginner quilters to ALWAYS iron the
batting to get out the wrinkles from being folded!
I was in a hurry, I forgot, and I paid for it.

I started having trouble when I was using the
505 spray to hold the layers together. It wouldn't
smooth out. I realized my mistake, but by then
it was too late. I did my best, but I could tell
the batting was 'loose' and a little pucker-y.

I had to choose a loose design to quilt it with,
and came up with free-form concentric squares.

I used my FMQ foot, and didn't try terribly hard
to maintain straight lines.

I wanted it to look like a preschooler drawing
through a maze. It was quick, and it worked.
It won't win any machine quilting awards, but
because of the wider spacing I had very few
puckers at all. It also added to the
overall loftiness of the quilt.

My thread was Aurifil, and my batting
'Warm and Natural' all cotton.

I'm adding this to my list of finishes for
"On the Windy Side" 1st quarter 2015.

I'm whittling down my list, and feeling
quite smug, I might say. Although, I
know it won't last long until I'm backed
up again.

Until then--
Come on, Doxie Girls.
Let's go sew.

Ironing batting when it has wrinkles is essential, but easy to forget!

Congratulations on your finish! It looks beautiful and cheerful. Wonderful quilting. I throw my batting in the dryer for 5-10 minutes.

Lovely! I always throw my batting in the dryer with a damp rag for about 10 minutes before basting it. No wrinkles at all! Hope your snow is going fast.

I really like your quilting design, it fits with your piecing. Sometimes accidents turn into serendipity! Slushy is great for a baby quilt too.

The snow is almost all gone here in NYC.
I ordered a new and better clothes iron which I'll have to fight my boyfriend over for my projects! No more wrinkled fabric. :-D

I'm a huge fan of 505 spray, but I was recently chided by a customer at the quilt store for buying it. She said it causes cancer. I read the label and it says to spray in a well ventilated area and it just sounded scary. I don't want to give up my 505 spray. Have you heard anything about this?

That's gorgeous, such lovely bright colours. I have never ironed my batting, although using a 70/30 ecoblend it would probably melt!
