Christmas Door Hanging: Pineapple Log Cabin

If you're local, this is a door hanger or even a wall hanger. I prefer 'hanging', but will list the search labels under both. I put it together to test out an Accuquilt die some time ago. Yes, another UFO here.

My mom has lived with some level of care for several years. It's just a cheery gesture to add some new things to her door as the seasons change. She enjoys it, and I think it livens the hall up for everyone. I've had the same Christmas hanging for her on repeat, and despite my best efforts this didn't get done in time for Christmas 2025. I have yet to add corners and a dowel rod, and it will be ready for 2026.

There is tremendous satisfaction in finishing a beautiful quilt, and I felt both exhausted and pleased at the same time with this one made by Connie Karlowicz. Custom quilting is a marathon experience. It takes a great deal of pacing, perseverance, and attention to detail for everything to come out right. And then there is the artistic element, the combination of designs, and hope that everything you've chosen works where it should, and supports the rest. I find it a little daunting at times.

Around here a wall hanging might be referred to as a "wall hanger". The first time I heard it I had one of those eyebrow raising moments, but it's a common way of saying it for many local people. I accept it now. When I first typed out the title, my fingers magically typed "wall hanger". Obviously my brain has accepted it, too. 

This is a client made piece by Connie Karlowicz, and I think it's just the prettiest thing! I found myself singing "I'll Be Home for Christmas" more than once working on it yesterday. Thankfully, I was alone.

2016 Black Friday Fabric Finds

Goodness! I had my first Black Friday ad in my inbox yesterday on Nov.1. That might be a record. Are you curious about whether my 2016 Black Friday Deals got used? As it happens, I actually have a quilt underway with some, and it may be something I can get done in time for Christmas. For once. 

The Fat Quarter Shop had a deal on Moda Jolly Bars in a Christmas print, and I snapped up 2. At 5" x 10" they were not a size I normally worked with, and I had to do some searching to find a pattern that worked with both the size and print. As the Bonnie Hunter Texas Braid was on my bucket list, and it took 2" x 5" strips, it was perfect. I just needed to add more fabric in both the prints and neutrals. There is a LOT of fabric in this quilt.

My Christmas Mantle and Musings

My "Need to Make or Buy" Christmas list is very small in spite of our family's size, but it still has some big holes in it. I may not get it all done before the big day, but that's still okay. I know there are people who believe the holiday is ruined if the presents aren't just perfect--or complete, but I live in the real world. I don't have little children anymore, and we're all very busy people. Realistically, there isn't always enough of me to go around. Any of this sound familiar?
