As the Trip Around the World Turns

Scrappy Trip Around the World

This class surprised me by all bringing in their quilt tops from the month before. I have a few proud quilters to show you. All tops were close, a few were together, and this one was even quilted! Big, bright, and beautiful!

This top came together during our sewing catch up day, and is still going to get a few borders added. I think it has so much energy like the person behind it. My method was entirely new to everyone, and many were not used to sewing with small pieces, but persevered.

This project came along after the class, and feels like a perfect fall quilt.

Quilt Shows Around the Corner

There are so many summer quilt shows, and I've taken on longarming a few quilts to help people make deadlines. This wall hanging is really a neat one started during a guild class, and tells the life of the quilter. Sometimes you get a quilt you know is more special than the maker says, and this was one. Now it will be done in time for the show.

Time in the Garden

This is my view from the back porch. The dogs appreciate the breeze outside, get a lot of exercise chasing the squirrels and grinnies, and I am learning EQ8 finally. Every day, a little at a time. Sometimes the green space calls, and I have to get my hands dirty. I have to say, as bad as it looks, it's never looked better. The is the first of many years I feel like I'm keeping up. Balance.

The tomatoes in the garden need staked. They are started at least with some of the poles in.

The Japanese beetles are loving my oakleaf  hydrangeas this year. Oh, well. The blooms are still beautiful.

Giant Hostas

These leaves are about 10" or more across. The dogs love to lay inside the circle on hot days, and never get yelled at for accidentally digging around plants. It's their garden too.

This is the first in 20 years I got dozens of seedlings! Woohoo!

It's officially summer, and the pots have filled out nicely.

Perennials have gone 1/2 price at the garden centers and stores, and I've taken advantage. Wouldn't it be neat if they did that with fabric?

I'll leave you with this great bug hanging on the front of a house here in town. I spied it on one of my daily walks, and thought it was so whimsical. Don't you love it? Enjoy the season! I hope you're drinking in the summer days, or keeping toasty for my dear friends down under. More quilt talk next time.

Come on, Doxie girls.

love your quilt and your garden - now that I am back home again I need to get the raised beds weeded - I thought I had enough mulch in there - but I have weeds and the tomatoes are doing poorly hope yours do better.

Wow, fabulous class quilts and AMAZING garden! I would not have realized how enormous your hostas are without the puppies in the picture for scale reference!

Those Trip Around the World quilt tops are looking really good. Love all the color. Can't believe the size of the leaves on your hosta - wowza! No wonder the pups like to hang around them, just for the shady coolness!

I love this time of year in blog-land when everyone shares their gardens with us. I love my hosta garden and the last few years have added many large ones. This year I added a tiny one called Mighty Mouse and it's doing great.

I'm going to make that pattern one day. And I splurged and bought EQ8. I haven't tried it yet.

Love all the quilts, the girls look like they had a grand time! Made me smile that you allow the dogs "their garden" too. I like to let my dog tromp around the garden but my husband yells at her to get out. My oakleaf hydrangea is blooming right now too ... haven't noticed Japanese beetles on it but I have seen the beetles elsewhere in the yard. Have a great week!

These Trips Around the World are very inspiring! I’ve only ever made one, just a baby quilt, to try it out, and never revisited it. What a beautiful property, Julie! My gardening days are over, but I remember the joy it brought me Year after year!

The Trips Around the World projects are all so different, it's amazing how changing the tone and colors really changes the quilt. Enjoy your garden time.
