Moda Modern Building Blocks
The Print Version
Warning: This pattern may be addicitive.
Proceed with caution!
Many of you know I had no intention to make this quilt. I only wanted to experiment, and try a few blocks. One thing led to the next, the momentum built, and it became a highly addictive project. It spanned months, and dominated my design wall and my attention.
The flimsy is 86"x96", and this is actually the first quilt I've ever made from a pattern. Call me a free spirit.
Solids don't make my heart go pitter-pat, but prints sure do. I thought this pattern would be more cheerful done in prints that read mainly as solids, but would also give it more depth and texture. A few blocks are really groovy where I used some Cotton+Steel prints, and a few just begged to stand out on their own in loud, large prints, but overall I was careful.
The word 'giddy' best describes how I felt when I matched up the two halves, and they fit. There are a tremendous amount of seams in this quilt, and getting just a bit off each time adds up. One of the 6" blocks I cut out had just under 50 pieces! It's not perfect by far, but I'm pleased as punch.
And this is what is really impressive to me--my design wall! I don't see it as empty, but rather as open so I can put the next thing on it. I have so many WIP's to tame. I said no more huge projects, but I'm thinking that might be in the works again. There's a set of blocks I've made that are begging for a fancy framework of sashing. Something to make me feel in the mood for fall.

I can just imagine the giddiness of having those halves match. I love the look that the different prints give.
I'd be giddy, too! What a great, great quilt! And an open design wall... oh the possibilities!
I love it! I've been watching everyone make this and have really wanted to jump in but have been good so far. Congrats on finishing it!
Great job!! It turned out beautiful! I have a hard time using patterns, I always feel like changing them up for a new take on them! I'm excited to see what you will be working on next!
Oh man, I'm seeing these everywhere and the pattern is really starting to call my name. I'm still trying to resist, but yours is gorgeous and might just push me over the edge. Great job and congratulations on the finish I can't wait to see it all quilted.
Nice job! It's not surprising you are pleased with this one . I really like your fabrics - going with pattern has worked well.
beautiful work! I wish I was doing this one! amazing!
Moda Modern Monster?! Hah! Your finished top is gorgeous! I, too, have been tempted by that sampler pattern. I've been trying to resist, at least until I sweep a couple of my current WIPs out of the way. Congratulations on a lovely flimsy. Now, how will you QUILT it? To me, one of the most exciting things about this Moda Modern Sampler is the endless options for quilting!
Wow, Id be tooting this puppy at every chance its incredible, the colours are lovely, what a wonderful sense of achievement :)
Congrats on the finish. Lots of fun colors and blocks in that quilt.

It looks awesome!
I like solids but this looks really good with prints. You must be delighted with it and to have had a fun time piecing it is icing on the cake!
What a great quilt! Did you do it as a block of the month type thing?
I celebrate the finish with you! Hooray and it looks great and it matched up. I like that clean blank design wall

50 pieces in a 6 inch block - holy smokes! I love this quilt and your version is amazing!

Very nice! I really like how the pattern looks like with prints.
Giddy, Groovy and may I add Gorgeous!!!
I'd love to see more pictures and I am sure that the quilt will be fabulous.
I just started working on my version of MMBB and finished the second block last night. Your version is beautiful (found it while Pinterest surfing for inspiration). Now I get to binge through your MMBB posts like I just found a new TV series on Netflix!
I started this quilt years ago and gave up after my first block was too small. I'm back at it, and I am now addicted! Thanks for sharing your experience. Your quilt is beautiful!
