Sorry, no finishes today, just
practice, practice, practice.
I've watched Leah Day's videos everyday.
I had a goal to practice daily this week, and
I stuck with it. I attempted feathers today.
Okay, I've never actually seen feathers that look
like mine here, but I claim artistic interpretation.
This is a fat quarter sectioned off, and I used
the least expensive poly batting I could
purchase. It was thicker than I was used to,
but it was no problem. It did create extrodinary loft.
Two full days of stash busting to yield this palette.
The squares were already matched up, and I took them
along to Wednesday night sewing. While I
sewed, both my mom and daughter helped me
out by clipping, pressing, and starching HSTs.
By this afternoon, I had sewn half of them
into quartered squares, and could put some on
the design wall. I LOVE this project! If you
missed the beginning, it's here.
Today I had a surprise in my mailbox.
Darlene, a.k.a.Quilt Shop Gal, sent me a 'surprise' gift
for linking up to her linky party a few weeks ago.
Just a surprise thank you, and I wanted to share.
I'm not usually a pattern follower, but there are
several in here I'll be making. They ARE adorable!
What a kind gesture, and what a lovely gift. I
am sincerley grateful, Darlene. Thank you so much!
Quilt Shop Gal also has a 2015 Free Motion
Quilting Challenge for any of you folks like me

Love the HST quilt in progress ... so scrappy yet so harmonious!
Hello Julie,
Fabulous FMQ practice piece. I can see elements of a monochrome landscape - bare tree, swirling clouds, running water, ferns blowing in the wind...
Thank you for linking up with Free Motion Mavericks!
Love, Muv
Great job on sticking with the FMQ practice! I think you are doing a fantastic job! Love your rainbow of color fabric...gorgeous!
Your color palette is lovely. You certainly have a great eye for color. I struggle so when it comes to such, but trying to learn. Yours is total #CreativeGoodness. Glad to hear you received your little "Surprise Prize" for participating in the weekly #CreativeGoodness Linky Parties.

I often refer to my FMQ feathers as "loops on a string" ... they may not look like anyone else's feathers, but I have come to love them because they are "me." I recently quilted a quilt using templates for feather wreaths and a feather and star border and they seemed like Alien feathers to me ... they were so perfectly even and not at all me. I love your FMQ tree!
I really like the result you are getting with your HST quilt. It looks like you have some interesting quilts in the book.
Ooooh, you're good at that! I have been a disaster, but you are right about the practice! And a good sharp needle :)
Oooo... **STASH**!!!

:-D
Feathers are tricky - buy cheap notebooks and doodle, doodle, doodle!
This is such a lovely palette of colors you have chosen to work with. I'm sure it took many hours to put it all together. It's really a beautiful quilt piece.
Wow - love the FMQ. I can only just about do normal type quilting! Can't wait to see your new quilt finished. x
So inspirational. Love the colours.
