Floriography Quilt Finale

Floriography is defined as 'the language of flowers.'

In times past, sending certain flowers referenced specific things, possibly secret messages or hidden meaning. We've heard of the different meanings of rose colors. Yellow for friendship, red for true love, and so on. Flowers mark milestones in our lives today, and I love both sending and receiving. Give me a bouquet of mixed wild flowers any day over roses, though. I'm all about color, you know?

When I heard a relative was having a baby girl, I had just the thing. A beautiful stack of Riley Blake Floriography waiting to be stitched into a quilt.

You can see some pictures in the sewing process here. I used 5 more solids in the blue to green palette, and I think it did the trick to highlight the prints. The pattern was simple, and yet different. I found it by making all those Log Cabin blocks in this post Playing With BlocksPlaying is good for discovery.

I was after the effect of a mixed bouquet.

The backing is a beautiful 100% cotton gingham, which is find is tough to come by. My local quilt shop had it!

The thread is Aurifil no.2425 in
50 pink.
My all time favorite color!
Aurifil thread is a dream to work with.

I think the thread gave such gorgeous texture!
This was stitched on my Janome 8200QC Memory Craft.

Now all I need to do is label it, wrap it, and send it on its way east where they're waiting on the baby.

I'm linking up today with~

Thank you all for the linking opportunity.

It was outside in 16 degree weather getting these shots,
and found this on our walls. Love it! I'm so grateful for
the little birds at my feeders all winter long. There's always
a steady parade of birds here.

The Doxies and I are finished here.
We're off to the sewing room for the rest of the day.

Come on, Doxie Girls.
Let's go sew.

Such a beautiful quilt. I love the colours and the pink gingham backing and am so impressed by the actual quilting - stunning. That's one lucky baby! Love the bird footprints in the snow - it looks like they've been dancing! x

I love how this came out. It's nice to see a quilt for a baby girl that isn't entirely pink all over. I think the blue/green solids really made this work. Awesome job.
