Scraps and a Panel Make a Quilt: WIP

Scraps and a Panel Make a Quilt
Work in Process

Once upon a sewing day I sewed scrap after scrap together in long lines thinking one day I would need them. That day came. I found the container while straightening the studio, and figured they were almost I Spy quality for a youngster. I started with a simple block I'd made before, threw down a few fabrics as borders, and then realized it would be a very small quilt. It stared back at me for several weeks. It was just boring. It needed more of something, and so I kept cleaning and clearing.

The clean up continued until I put my hands on a short stack of panels I'd bought to practice my quilting. This wasn't the kind of panel you could use as is, but groupings of sections instead. So I divided it up, and added it in. I lost some of the rhythm with the pieced blocks all together, but I gained a lot of interest.

I picked up on some of the vivid colors in the panel, and added those to frame out each animal or floral section. Those strips were sitting in a box in my scrap department left over from a mystery quilt along years ago. Blocks were shuffled on advice from a friend.

I've no real idea of size other than "not too big". A small quilt for a small child, and one's purpose to keep near the car seat. And, oh, I think a very cuddly batting, and simple hand quilting. I want it to feel like a vintage piece.

Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go sew.
