Local Needs
Many of the comforters made by the Gnadenhutten Quilt Project lately have not stayed in our local area lately, but were sent where they were needed most. They were taken to MCC Connections in Kidron, Ohio, a thrift store, and collection site for Mennonite Christian Committee. Donated comforters follow the path to people in need through Mennonite Disaster Relief. Our little group has 8 at the moment ready to donate. That's wonderful!
But not every comforter or quilt made here is given through an organization. Sometimes we know personally of someone in need, and it's nice to be able to share some comfort like this blue beauty. I love the variety of fabrics!
My mom really enjoys making the children's tops over the adult ones sent for relief. 45"x60" is a good standard size for a child's quilt while 60"x80" serves an adult well.
Children's quilts are quick to load on the longarm two at a time, and a wavy line tacks down the seams well. I played with a few different designs, but the path shown below goes quickly even with quilts loaded side by side.
Come on, Doxie girls.

I really like that path you sketched. Think I'll try it on my next square baby quilt. It's so nice you get to be with your parents so often. I haven't seen my 94 year old mother since February.
I love that not only your mum quilts, but your dad as well. And I am glad you are able to get together at this time.
I’m so glad to hear you didn’t have to give up your project and are still meeting and working together. There are so many in need. Seems I’m always making comfort quilts for others (without going through an organization), and it brings me such pleasure. I’m on the home stretch to completing 3 for one family and excited to be able to move on to something new. If they only knew how much love and supportIng thoughts go into every stitch....you know what? I’ll bet they do! Do you think we can change the world, one quilt at a time?
