Spin Drift: 2

Dresden Block #2

I decided to show you the blocks in the order I made them. It's interesting how we intuitively change our fabric choices as we progress with a pattern. If one block is high drama, the next might be toned down, and so on. While we can only have one princess at a party, quilts can handle more than one, but not all.

Creating a few blocks to be calmer in color intensity or contrast can actually help your quilt. This technique was often used in older quilts when a dull block or two was added. They lead our eyes around the quilt looking for those other blocks we perceive as quieter or louder. With that said, this isn't a wall flower, but it is darker. You have to slow down to see what's in that center fabric, and that is what makes it work for me.

See you tomorrow.

Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go sew.

It is a beautiful block. I have no idea how you figured out all that fabric to work.
