Stunning Circle for MQG Pt II Finish

Stunning Circle Quilt
Finish

I had a finish to this project early this week, but time and computer issues prevented me showing it. Part I will take you from the creation of the circle through the applique process, and at that point I kept telling myself to not overthink the quilting.

Straight Line Quilting

The piecing was so dense that I chose to stay away from quilting on top of it. Instead, I echoed the circle with my machine foot at equal intervals.

I used a grey Aurifil for several rounds, then switched to an orange shade of Aurifil to finish it. I think it gives just a hint of color when viewed close up, and makes it worth the time and effort.

The inner circle needed to be secured in some way, and I originally thought I would do concentric circles there also. However, that proved more difficult than I imagined, and I settled on one good circle. Note: Plan all you want, but be willing to to change that plan when necessary.

Binding

I felt like this small piece needed something other than a solid binding. All charcoal seemed to let it drift off the page while the tangerine was over-powering. Hovering between the orange posts made it feel centered without fenced in. I thought about this balancing act while I hand stitched it to the backing. It seemed to tie in with my May theme of balance.

The hanging sleeve is attached as well as tag.

"Finding Center"

I am not often asked to name a piece of work, but this title made perfect sense. May is nearly over, and my search for balance continues. I've realized I'm a long way off from a balanced life, but I am working on finding my center. I have a better sense of who I am, who I'm not, and the kind of work I want to pursue. Invisible progress on all fronts, but that's how personal growth works. This will be a good visual reminder.

Come on, Doxie girls.
Off to bed, and tomorrow we sew.

    1. Thank you so much! The name came from the Craftsy class taken to teach the technique so I give the credit there. And thank you for the well wishes. I believe it's no strange occurrence that our mind and work find parallels, and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of this action.

    1. You and I both know the value of walking by something for a few days before finishing. It will tell you what it needs if we only listen. Thank you.
