Block 2 Is Finished
I finished this block up Sunday morning. It was completely fiddly, and I was lucky it came together. The outer circle of stars were all off enough to make me sew and rip, sew and rip. I will say I'm developing a sense of how to see where I need to mismatch seams a bit to make it fit. That's good progress.
Color Process: Block 3 Is Underway
I get this love/hate thing going with my color choices. I think I'm picking out great fabrics then they disappoint me when I have the strips laid out. I'm beginning to think it's a crap shoot.

Final pull and strips cut here. I added the diagonal navy for interest in the block, and was bummed I didn't have the amount of red I wanted. The middle strips look anemic to me here.

While I still am disappointed in my lack of red in the block, I am going to use a trick to spice it up.
I have a background print with red in it, and I think it helps support the red stripe across the middle of the star point. (If you want to see what I mean, squint a bit.) I'm also debating to make my stars navy and red both. I'm not sure how it will look while the rest of the stars are one color, but perhaps single this one block out a bit as a patriotic theme. I'd like that. It would have been very typical in a quilt done during this era also.
The Garden
In the years I was away from blogging, my garden went through huge changes. The most wonderful one was the fence! Deer plague me along with chipmunks, squirrels, mice, raccoons, fox, and possum! My 7.5' fence was worth all the stress it took to get it up last year. Yesterday was rainy and cool, and last night we had some frost. it was a perfect day for a trip to a quilt store, and a guiltless afternoon of sewing. A lot of my time is spent working out here, and especially during the early planting and growing season. I'm often late replying to comments, but I will get around to them as soon as I can. I love your choice of colors- things I would never think to put together as I don't have much background in traditional quilts. That is what happens when you grow up in the 50s formica age and plastic 60s with no creative handwork around. I would love the space you have for a garden. Mine is basically a shoe box. I would love some land, but that would mean moving out of the area. I would love to grow my own veggies. Thanks for sharing!
