Custom Quilting for Lynn Caley's Original Design
Teaser pictures only for this quilt today because the maker has plans for it, and I don't want to get in the way of anything. If you plan to publish a quilt, there are often rules in place that the quilt may not have been shown in its entirety. And because I am delivering it today, this post needs to be short. How about I just say, "It's a gorgeous quilt! Great work, Lynn."
I won't divulge the number of hours that went into the quilting, but it was on the frame for many days. The bubbles, and curly designs are all computer assisted, but the background fills and ditch stitching are all manual ruler work. Ruler work is grueling, and hard on both your body and your eyes. There are probably 8 hours of just moving the ruler and machine.
When I mark a quilt, it is as minimal as possible. A slightly dried out blue marker is best, in my opinion. I dot where I touch the edge, but rarely draw a line.
One incident of a marking pen that would not completely disappear scarred me forever. The minute I am done with the block I remove the marks with water.
Backings can be fantastic as well!
I love to quilt for Mary Anne! The texts fly back and forth during the quilting process, and I've gotten to know her. Knowing someone helps me determine what they like, and what kind of design I might suggest.
Fast Feathers is a great design!
Quilts for twins, Cindy Martin DeUnger made these bright, happy-go-lucky tops in purple and pink. We agreed using this paisley design from Wasatch Quilting would give them a great background design, too. It was a very long stitch out using a lot of thread, but made for amazing texture!
These baby quilts will wear like iron!
When I need a break, I'm in the garden sifting through the fall weeds for tomatoes and peppers, and even my kale, which seems to be rejuvenated. My winter squash is soon ready to pick.
And the Doxie girls never cease to keep me entertained. Ever my constant companions, they are still the little furry loves of my life!
Life Must Sew On!
Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go sew.

Those quilting teasers are great. All your hard work shows.
ReplyDeleteCertainly a lot to think about with the designs in these photos. Thanks for the tip on using drier markers. I usually use chalk and guess what did not come out in the last quilt- yellow and orange chalk made for quilt marking. I am going right now to work on a quilt that has been barely started. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteJulie, all of these quilts are beautiful, but that custom "teaser" is STUNNING! I would love to know how long it took to stitch the computerized designs as well, if you happened to track the entire quilting time. Your customers are so lucky to have you!
ReplyDeleteStunning work, Julie!
ReplyDeleteIt’s true love that makes one spend oh, so many hours creating such beauty!
