Sweet Modern Baby One Patch

I was asked to make a baby quilt for a little girl soon to make her way into this world. I drove home with my fingers crossed to see if I had enough of my favorite fabrics still on the shelf, and this time I was in luck. These prints are whimsical, floral, and graphic all at the same time. I added a soft pink polka dot to keep it a little sweeter since this is for a new baby.

A Trip Around the World in pink, green, red and grey was an easy choice, but I wanted something tactile for backing. This brushed cotton was sitting in my backing stack, and there was exactly enough yardage. (Most of you know how seldom that actually happens.) I moved happily onward toward my longarm.

I quilted with Bright White Omni thread, but will admit it was terribly difficult to follow where I had quilted as the thread blended so completely. I'd compare it to sweeping a room in the dark.

I tried several different stash fabrics for binding, but this red is a particular shade. At long last I settled on the graphic print in the collection in red.  I think I can achieve a bit of a striped effect by cutting the binding WOF. It will be fun to see this one done. Coming up next!

Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go sew.

  1. LOL, I know the feeling of quilting in the dark! Sometimes the thread just blends away so perfectly that you are clueless where you have been. Cute baby quilt - I'm sure they'll love it!

  2. Baby quilts can be so much fun to make. Very 'no pressure' and generally a fast finish which means good endorphins for us!

  3. I've played that game of quilting in the dark. Score on having the right size backing. I usually lose that game.
