Let me start by saying this quilt design isn't every one's cup of tea, but it speaks to me. It started off as an improv project at an Amy Butler Dreaming Big in Color weekend.
I brought home the center piecing before adding in the rest from my own scrap stash. Therefore it's most definitely scrappy, and has many pieces added to it from a friend's scrap donation. The most intriguing piece is the outer border that had a previously life as a dress. Check the second link for a picture of it, but all the posts detail the process of this project.

I had a tough time picking a suitable binding fabric. It had to be something to soften the glitzy pink and gold, yet tie into the other colors.There's a lot going on here. I used a very modern yet subtle print that reminds me of raindrops.

I hope you have a good weekend plan in place whether it involves time spent in your sewing space, or decorating with those you love for your winter holiday. We have yet to put up a Christmas tree, but I did hang out the bird feeders. That seems to help the mood, but somehow temperatures in the 50's and green grass don't send me the Christmas spirit. Not that I'm complaining, mind you!

ReplyDeleteI love it! It's certainly my cup of tea!! I have the same trouble with my search box! It works in a different browser, but not on google chrome. It really stinks too! I use it all the time on my blog!!
ReplyDeleteI definitely like it. What a great use of scraps and vintage fabrics. I bought a scrub at a thrift store. It was so colorful I had to have it. I've now used it in three quilts.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I have to say I just tried improv quilting for the first time this week and I ended up finding it quite enjoyable. There is possibly some more on the horizon this weekend. I thought the process would be stressful, but there was something quite freeing in it. You just kind of let the fabric lead you where you are going.

I like it. I love how improv looks but I'm far too much of a control freak to do it. I've tried for som bee blocks and found it so hard. I think I'll have to keep admiring it from afar xx

ReplyDeleteI checked out your Vintage Stash...post and you got quite a haul there. I've done the same and feel that anything goes in fabrics. If you like it, you should use it. The quilt is a true scrappy winner.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely my cup of tea: I like that it is made out of such a mix of fabrics, and the way you have used concentric borders around the wild centre gives it some structure and works very well.

ReplyDeleteNot everybody's cup of tea, but I could drink that tea for sure! I love the colours you have in there, especially the contrast between that dark pink/fushia, the royal blue and the orange/gold. It really works together. And the outer border is perfect!
