I've spent hours thinking about how to quilt this project. The thread is pale enough that I don't think it will show much at all on the top, and it will also be hard to follow what I'm actually doing. The medium grey backing will show great detail. So, what to do?
I had a brainstorm yesterday while mowing. Quilt it from the backside, perhaps.
If the piecing and pattern are not considered traditional, why not the quilting? It's the Love quilt, and that makes me think of graffiti and doodling on school books. I tried 2 test sandwiches using all the different icons I could think of for love. The dark blue shows up the thread better as I hope it will on the grey.
My biggest fear is that I won't be able to fit this monster in my home machine. The top measures 63" x 67", and the distance on my Pfaff from the needle to the inside of the throat is just 6 7/8". That's a lot of quilt to ball up and move around.
The rest of the day I"ll finalize my ideas, and draw them on. I can create sections with painter's tape so I"ll know to quilt a whole area before moving on. When you've got that much going on in such a small space, it's hard to tell if you've finished an area, or which direction to move to.
Deep breath here. Wish me and the Doxie girls good luck. Off we go.
Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go sew.
