Memories of My Garden

My garden is not particularly planned. It's more of a jumble of plants I've bought or been given. Many have to be heeled in quickly, and quite often I have to move one after the fact. It might not like the sun or wind in that spot, or maybe it spreads enough to block another favorite. It may appear messy to some, but most often there is a sense of order in my mind. It's controlled chaos at best.

I think that's why this floral fabric appeals to me. It moves this way and that, but is still quite beautiful. When I see the lupines slanting more toward horizontal in one area, I am tempted to turn the circle. But just as before, there is another grouping of flowers that looks equally tilted. I want to ask, "Which side is up?" It's impossible to determine.

Escher played with the concept of designing impossible spaces. Up one staircase would lead down another, and while we saw it proven, we could reason it was not true. These were illusions much like the bouquets above. The perspective changes throughout. I don't think I've ever seen this used in fabric, and therefore makes this one of my favorite blocks.
