3 Baby Quilt Finishes

So Close to the End of this Love Affair

I adored this fabric when I first saw it so I bought enough. I purchased 1/2 to 1 yard of most fabrics in the line knowing there would be enough for twin baby quilts last summer. (Seriously, how well do you estimate yardage when you're not sure what you're doing with it?)

Quilt Beginnings, Endings & In Between: Without a List

No. 3

And since there was still yardage left, this one below last week. I think I've finally had enough of it, but there is still some left on my cutting table. Enough already!

Has that ever happened to you? Ah, the saying, "Familiarity breeds contempt."

Another quilt was underway for the new mother receiving this quilt, but Baby decided to arrive to the party early. So a quick Trip Around the World in 5" squares went together, was longarmed loosely for warmth (Warm & Plush batting), and bound in just a few short hours.

The one delight about making baby quilts is being able to use regular width yardage as backing. I had this gorgeous print just waiting to tone down all the pink in the top. Although the new mom's favorite color for Baby was pink, I added plenty of red and a hearty dose of green to keep it grounded, and tie it together.

I made these next two baby quilts last month. A Two Quilt Tuesday, and Churn Dash Baby Quilt II. The details and book they came from are in the those posts. I chose not to add the additional border the pattern called for, and simply finished them off. While I bemoaned losing points during construction, it was only a passing thought by the time I bound them. Done was better than not done at all.

You will notice that both have a bit of a ripple effect laying here, and I see that often when I use a thicker poly batting. I chose not to use cotton in these for a number of reasons, but mainly ease of care.

They're a gift for a mom with a very young toddler and new twins. 3 kids 3 years old and under? Yes, I've been there and done that, and the name of the game is Make it Easy! These can be thrown in the washer, and dried in the dryer on low. If they don't make the dryer, they'll dry quickly over a rack or rod. There's nothing fussy about them, and are perfect for throwing on the floor for a play quilt.

Families have different ideas about twins. I wanted these quilts to honor that the babies were indeed twins with the same design, but also individuals. Hence, the difference in colors and fabrics. Similar, but not repeats.

This makes 4 quilts that I could deliver this week! Oh, my! (Farmhouse Star was the 4th, if you're counting along.) What will next week bring? I would dearly like to get my design wall emptied so we can use it for Sewing Group on Tuesday. That means some serious sewing between now and then to get this down.

I made that Hurricane Stars quilt as one of the first quilts that wasn't a kitted quilt. Fun pattern! And since I didn't have any fabric on hand at the time, all the 20 different fabrics I bought began my Stash! I'll send you a photo. Love all your other projects, too!!!

Wow - you've been busy. Lovely baby quilts. Here, life has gotten in the way a lot, so little progress. Mojo, where are you?

Oh, my goodness, Julie! You are so clever and thoughtful when you create your quilts! Each one is a delight. What a wonderful feeling to have four finishes this week! I’ll bet you can finish sewing up the one on your design wall in time, too! Thank you for the inspiration to keep on sewing on those WIPs that have accumulated! Reading your post motivates me me to do just that instead of starting something new (and spending more money!) xo
