Quilted Zombies: Heating Pad Cover & Body Pillow

Heat Seeking Zombies

Years ago I made one of our sons a zombie quilt. One of our daughters fell in love with the fabric. Would I make her one, too, please? Sure, if I had enough fabric, but sadly there was not. So, I promised a smaller project, and we all know how those promises go. The shoemaker's children go barefoot! This week I kept my promise.

Zipper Bags Simplified: Part 4 of 4

Continued from
Zipper Bags Simplified: Part 1

Zipper Bags Simplified: Part 3

My edges lined up much nicer this time. Pin both layers together staying toward the center of the bag to prevent waviness in the edges.

Start by stitching at the top right hand corner. Sew about 1/2", backstitch the same amount, then continue stiching around the bag. Stop with your needle down in each corner and pivot the bag. Finish by back stitching the seam back and forward 1/2", reinforcing the as in the beginning. I use a regular machine foot and 2.5 cm stitch length in a straight stitch.

Continue to open the zipper the whole way, and turn the bag right side out. It's absolutely a Ta-Dah! moment for you.

Zipper Bags Simplified: Part 2 of 4

This is a continuation of Zipper Bags Simplified: Part 1 of 4

Press with a warm iron staying away from the nylon teeth. A hot iron may damage the zipper. (Feel relieved that the hardest part is over.)

Zipper Bags Simplified: Part 1 of 4

Zipper bags are one of my favorite things to make. I have tried to produce the simplest tutorial to help even a beginner make one successfully. Please let me know if you have any questions, or I can make something more understandable.

Perfecting the Pouch-Zipper Bags Revisited

"The essential conditions of everything we do must be choice, love, passion."
                                      ~Nadia Boulanger

Immediately after a quilt top finish, I like to stop for a breather and clean the studio. Organizing is the therapy I need before saying hello to the next new thing. I sorted the scrap pile I'd made creating the Moda Modern, and when I opened my bins to put them away, it was like the scene from Jumanji where Alan Parrish was sucked into the board game.

The One Year Journey of a Quilting Blogger

Me, Julie, the Pink Doxie Mama

This post has been turning in my mind for a month. I joined the 2015 New Quilt Bloggers in June as a way to hone my blogging skills and meet others. We've covered the gamut of topics in our Facebook group, and I've enjoyed being introduced to both the new blogs, and the real voices behind them.

Second Entry for 2015 Blogger's Quilt Festival-"Zombies, Zombies, Zombies!"

We took advantage of a quick break in the
rainstorms, and snapped a few new pictures
Another post telling the whole backstory can
be found HERE.

This quilt was made for my son, who happens
to hate zombies, so it's a little tongue-in-cheek.
Regardless, he liked his quilt I made last fall.

This marks my second entry into the
Amy's Creative Side. This is a smaller
quilt than "Chicago, 2007", which is entered in
the large quilt category. Measuring in at "52x61",
this will be entered in the "Home Machine Quilted" category.

Zombies is one of the first quilts I had the
chance to quilt on my Janome. I had moved
up from a 7" throat space to a whopping 11"!
I went a little crazy with the graffiti style
quilting, and the grey Aurifil thread popped
on my black Kona backing.

The fabrics were a hoot to work with, and I
loved the fussy cutting possibilities.

I chose a black and white hatched fabric
for the binding shown above.

I think one of the best things about doing so
much freestyle is you develop a rhythm as
you move the quilt.

I pieced the back with the intent for it to
look like little legs on the sides.

Since this was one of the first quilts I made
in my early blogging days last fall, it's new to
most of you. So...
"Ta Dah!"

Time to get back in the archives and put
some labels on old posts, I think. There are
some goodies hiding in there yet, if you
care to check them out.

Like this.

And, yes, Mishsa and his pasture mates are doing
well, and loving their new barn. We'll do an
update on them soon.

If you're new to Pink Doxies, the
Pet Project Show runs Saturday-
Monday every week, and is your
opportunity to link up whatever
lovely thing you're working on.
We'd love to see you there!

Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go to Amy's Creative Side,
and check out all the quilts today.

One Charley Harper and a Zombie Dog Bed Done

My daughter requested a dog bed for a friend. Could it be something edgy for one very feisty dog? I love the Zombie fabric, and luckily had some leftover in both my stash and scrap bins. They agreed, so I used the same piecing method as the Love quilt. Free-cut strips, and improv piecing. I didn't pay much attention to the layout, but evened up the strips when they were long enough. I was aiming for a 24"x24" top.

WIP: Zombies back and front

"This is Halloween, this is Halloween, Halloween, Halloween..."

The Zombie quilt is coming along just dandy. I finally decided this odd design 'feels' like it belongs here. I snuck in a few good hours this morning, and plunged into the project. It'll be done by evening for my Zombie lover.

Zombies! Zombies! Zombies!

Two days left 'til All Hallow's Eve! Don the costumes! Buy the candy!

If you were a good parent, and you had a child who was creeped out by Zombies, Zombie movies, and everything to do with Zombies, what would you do?

Forgive me now. Or hate me. Meh. Either way, I made him a Zombie quilt. Let me justify this by saying he was nearly 21 at the time I started it, okay? The prints were adorable, and I knew I had to make this quilt. Maybe it would help desensitize him along the way.
