Tiki Beads Update

Tiki Beads Hand Stitching Progress

The holidays are officially upon us because I am scattered to all four corners. Sadly, I disappear here when push comes to shove, but I am slowly digging my way out. I'm not telling you anything new. You know exactly what I mean because you're probably going through the same thing! It's less than a week before Thanksgiving, and 5 weeks before Christmas.

Today I finally finished picking up leaves, and tomorrow's forecast involves snow. Maybe that will make it seem more holiday-like, but running around in short sleeves does nothing to invoke the spirit. I am not complaining, but it is a little hard to get in the mood.

I was at a loss of how to quilt the project. I was just over thinking it. After trying a few more complicated designs, this simple echo felt best. I did give it a little pizzazz by varying the thread colors. There is no rhyme or reason to it, but all thread breaks end at a seam.

This piece traveled with my last week, and I took along my small PVC frame. It breaks down into individual rods, but I found it was unnecessary at all. By stabilizing the piece beforehand on the longarm, I had no need for it. The next time it stays home. This makes a very handy project to roll up, and transport in my backpack. I spent some of my layovers happily stitching away, and met some lovely people who came by to have a look.

And since Santa might be listening, I promise to be a good girl, and not be gone so long next time.

I hope you are keeping your own stress at bay, and finding some time to stitch away. Remember to do whatever it is that centers you during the busy season. No one will remember you not putting up 2 or 3 trees--Yup, I did this, but they will remember you spending time with them. So keep your expectations in check, and be kind to yourself, too.

Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go sew.

I like the echoing, simple look but it gives it just the right touch.

Why, thank you, Cindy! Such a nice thing to say. I am quite happy with the way it's turned out, too.

Thank you, Donna. Sometimes something simple like this is far more enjoyable than a complex project.

fascinating how stitching or knitting in an airport is always a conversation opener!!

Your quilting idea is perfect. I'm doing hand stitching this week as Thanksgiving preparations make it hard to get to my machine. It's calming, which I'll need lots of between now and Christmas.
