Bee Hive Blocks & My Month Arrives

Tic Tac Toe Block

April's block was the Tic Tac Toe, and the Queen Bee requested an orange center with blue or turquoise corners. I think this is going to make a beautiful quilt from the pictures I've seen so far.

For those of you who don't know, this is my first time participating in a Bee Hive. Twelve participant share in the fun. One Queen Bee each month requests a specific block in her chosen colors, and each worker obliges. Blocks are to be with the Queen by the end of her month. I think everyone tries their best, and so far it's been a fun experience. Yes, there's a little pressure hoping you make the block in fabrics she'll like, but all have been very gracious.

While trying to get April's block ready, I got an email from the Hive Mama that my month was next. Already? The list of blocks we choose from are all at Blossom Heart Quilts, and one kept popping out at me. I liked the simplicity of the X, and knew I wanted to do a black and white quilt hoping to use some of my text fabrics in it. I did a test block to make sure it wasn't too difficult, and was pleased at how the designer had constructed it.

All the block measurements and instructions are available there for free.

The test block got me pretty excited, and I pulled a stack of fabrics to make five more. The test block took the longest like all first blocks do, but these are ideal for chain sewing with all the straight seams. I should have a couple ready to show you by the first of the week if I'm lucky.

Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go sew.

That's going to be a very fun and dramatic quilt.
