Week 4 Blog Hop and 'By the Block' Review

2015 New Quilt Bloggers Group

Morale in the ranks is low. Show your support today. That is, the 2015 New Quilt Bloggers final week starts now. Remember your last couple days of summer camp when you knew you were headed home by the weekend? When the melancholy had shifted from starting camp homesick, and swung all the way to hoping it lasted all summer? Well, that's how I'm feeling, and it's not just me.

The difference is these days there is the internet, and we are an active group. We have technology. We won't lose touch, but I'll miss it. We've had fun!

New Blogger Series

We are graciously hosted by 4 veteran bloggers. Each has a hive of their own, and 4 bloggers for each week. There are wonderful giveaways each week, and you can sign up by visiting each of them.

The Sew Fabulous Hive has 4 featured bloggers this week.

My post date was last week, The One Year Journey of a Quilting Blogger. It was affirming to put together, and I appreciate all the kind comments left for me. Thank you. This week's bloggers have worked hard, and will appreciate your visits, too.

I have another new book to share with you today. (Yes, I do like my books.) Remember, you don't have to buy books to enjoy them. Check them out at your local library first to see if it's something you'll use often before using your stash cash. If you do buy it, thank you for thinking to click through Pink Doxies.

Last week I did a book review on Quiltopedia. I was pretty excited to find a book that was just perfect for the new quilter. But if you're past the beginner stage with a couple or more quilts stacked up or given away, here's an excellent book to move on to. The projects are broken down by piecing technique, and include:
  • Squares
  • Half-Square Triangles
  • Crosses
  • Triangles
  • Log Cabin
  • Curved Piecing
The photography is excellent, but the treasure is in the tips in the sidebar. Tips, hints, and time-savers are like having an experienced quilter at your side teaching the little things. There were many things I picked up, and I read a lot of books.

I have been looking forward to making a quilt based on a wedge pattern, and I've found it. It's a far cry from traditional quilts, and easy enough to produce quickly. Also, something else that appealed to me were the details of how each was quilted. All were done by machine, but she's varied from FMQ, edge-to-edge, straight line quilting, and custom design FMQ on a long arm. A nice variety.

If you're the mother of boys or not into super-sweet frilly quilts, this is your book. Lower keyed piecing, and higher impact graphics make for quilts that look harder than they actually are. I'm very pleased with it, and recommend the book as a real keeper.

Follow Pink Doxies by clicking any of the icons below, or Instagram above in the right sidebar, and never miss a post. You have no idea what's happening here tomorrow.

Come on, Doxie girls.
Let's go sew today.

If you're a blogger or a student looking for a great buy on an Asus laptop, I've found one.
ASUS F555LA-AS51 Core i5
15.6-Inch Laptop

Don't laugh, but at almost 50, my eyes prefer a big screen, and continually need more storage capacity. My kids all run Asus laptops, and they recommend them highly.

I'm feeling it too. It's been a great experience participating in the blog hop. The book looks really interesting. Thanks for sharing it . I've been working on curved piecing and the circles in the book look pretty interesting.
